“Pupils in Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 participate in French lessons on a weekly basis. Teaching provides an appropriate balance of spoken and written language, laying the foundations for further language teaching at KS3. The main focus of study is on practical communication. Pupils are able to explore the patterns and sounds of language by appreciating stories, songs and rhymes in French. Accurate pronunciation is developed as pupils broaden their vocabulary and develop their ability to understand new words. Pupils are encouraged to engage in conversations; ask and answer questions; express opinions and respond to those of others. Substantial progress of pupils in French is enabled, whilst enjoying the fun of learning a new language at the same time!”.
